The Glasgow Style Mile Christmas Carnival 2023

Bridgeman Arts returns to the city centre with our ninth Style Mile Christmas Carnival. Our Christmas Carnival Carousel will transform the city streets around the Style Mile with a host of magical fantasy characters, giant artworks, performing troupes and dancers and musicians to help get us all into the Christmas spirit.

There will be 12 performing zones from the Buchanan Galleries down into the St Enoch Centre where you can see and interact with our festive creations across the whole afternoon. Buchanan Street will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland beginning at 13.00 when the Lord Provost opens the event at the giant Buchanan Bauble installation. Join us for a free, magical celebration that you can dip in and out of as you please throughout the afternoon as you take advantage of the many things that you can do when in the city centre of Glasgow. Enjoy our festive creations while you shop, meet friends, have lunch or a coffee – whatever takes your fancy.

Use your mobile phone to scan the QR codes that our Christmas characters will be displaying and look online to see what great Christmas offers there are for you around the Style Mile.

"A GLASGOW-STYLE CHRISTMAS"

CARNIVAL THEME - The theme for the carnival event this year is "THE GLASGOW-STYLE CHRISTMAS". We celebrate the launch of the Christmas season in Glasgow with four hours of new content that is both modern and traditional and has a hint of the treasure hunt about it including also a choir performance by the NHSGCC choir at the Royal Concert Hall steps at 14.00.

Look out for lots of new characters and new artworks in 2023 including:

  • THE LARGER THAN LIFE FATHER CHRISTMAS

  • THE CHRISTMAS CANDLE AND FRIENDS
  • THE ARGYLL BEADLE
  • LOTS OF OTHER CHARACTERS – THE ABSURDIST PIPE ELVES, THE JUNIPER 3 VOCAL TRIO, THE TRADESTON BRASS CHRISTMAS CHARACTER TROUPE, STILTWALKING ELVES, THE STYLE MILE CHRISTMAS PEACOCK, THE VIVACE THEATRE PERFORMERS AND MANY MORE!

Hundreds of performers and costumed characters, drawn from both community and professional backgrounds will help to create a Christmas spectacle that would brighten up even the darkest of our winter days in Glasgow.

We are proud to work with the VIVACE Theatre School and many of the talented, costumed performers you will see are from this wonderful organisation.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is a carousel of performances at specific sites around the city streets. Performances will be short - roughly five minutes in duration - and then the troupe will move on to the next point in the carousel. Other performers and artworks will replace them when they leave the spot. Sometimes when the performers are moving between performance zones they may not be able to stop to pose for photos. When they are at the performance zones and not in mid-performance, then this is the best time to ask for pictures. Do not fret if you turn up when they have just finished a performance because you can catch them again at a different spot close by
